Woman choked by stranger in her South Austin backyard
AUSTIN (KXAN) — A South Austin woman is hoping the public can help find her attacker. Alexis Lopez says she was putting her dogs in her backyard Sunday night on Bucks Run when a man hiding outside her door jumped out and began choking her with an extension cord.
“He took my sense of security. I don’t even feel safe in my own home anymore,” said Lopez.
Before Lopez walked outside she noticed her porch light wasn’t working. “I started switching the light on and off but my dogs were very hesitant to come outside. So I came outside to see if I needed to change the light bulb and as I stepped down I could see in my peripheral vision that someone was standing right here,” she said.
Lopez motioned to the left of the door where she had been pushed on the ground. This was the first time Lopez had walked out her backdoor since that night. “Seeing the broken light bulb and knowing that someone had intentionally pulled that out because they already had a plan, it’s all so surreal right now,” said Lopez.
The man had picked up an extension cord sitting outside on her grill, wrapped it around her neck and began choking her.
“He wasn’t jerking the extension cord just for fun. He was doing it to hurt me,” Lopez said.
Lopez says she screamed repeatedly even after her attacker told her to be quiet. “After that, I tried to scream one last time, and it didn’t come out right and that’s how I knew that something was wrong, because I couldn’t breathe anymore,” said Lopez.
Lopez was finally able to scream loud enough to get her boyfriend’s attention inside her home. When her attacker heard her boyfriend coming, he let go of the extension cord, stomped on her foot and jumped a fence in her backyard. “I’ve never felt so much hate come from somebody that I have no idea who they are,” said Lopez.
Austin police say they are investigating the incident as an aggravated assault, but can’t release additional information and have not provided a suspect description. The woman described her attacker as a black male, almost six feet tall, wearing a gray hoodie, athletic shorts, Nike sandals and wearing a large ring on one hand.
“I want people to know that there is someone really, really sick out there and I don’t understand why he did what he did to me because I didn’t know him,” said Lopez.http://www.people24x7.org/woman-choked-by-stranger-in-her-south-austin-backyard/https://i1.wp.com/www.people24x7.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/austin-woman-choked.jpg?fit=650%2C364https://i1.wp.com/www.people24x7.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/austin-woman-choked.jpg?resize=150%2C150FEATURED POSTSfeatured
