India:In last 24 hours two journalists have been shot dead in Jharkhand and Bihar. The murder has created outrage in both the states where the family members of the victims are demanding independent probe.

On Friday evening, Rajdev Ranjan, a senior journalist attached with a Hindi daily was shot dead in Bihar’s Siwan district. According to reports five shots were fired on Ranjan at extremely close range when he was at Siwan railway station.

Ranjan, a reputed journalist with 20-years of experience was pronounced dead by the time he was brought to a local civil hospital in Siwan. The Bihar police officials who are probing the murder said that the motive for the killing is unclear and the deceased had no personal enmity with anyone. The cops today detained three people in connection to the murder case.

RJD chief Lalu Yadav who was campaigning nearby for a by-poll election, also visited Ranjan’s residence and ordered a thorough probe into the matter. The incident has sparked protests by media persons in Bihar. A senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader has demanded a speedy investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, in Jharkhand’s Chatra district, a 35-year-old journalist was shot dead by unidentified people on Thursday night. The journalist identified as Akhilesh Pratap Singh worked for a local news channel and was murdered near the panchayat secretariat office in his village.

Jharkhand’s Chief Minister Raghubar Das had condemned the incident and asked the Director General of Police DK Pandey to solve the case as fast as possible.
